Cementon Bridge Project Tour

On Wednesday, June 25th, our members gathered at the Lehigh River in Northampton for a behind-the-scenes look at a critical infrastructure project: the Cementon Bridge. The project tour and evening presentation were led by Bill Laird, PE of HDR, with help from Mike McGuire, PE and Dave Leaf, PE. Additional thanks to Darren LePage from PennDOT for allowing the event to take place, and Jason Zaharick from CDR Maguire for assisting with the planning.

The tour and presentation highlighted the history of the existing bridge, its importance, and the factors precluding rehabilitation of the existing bridge. The decision-making process, weighing the advantages, downsides, and costs of the competing replacement concepts, was particularly interesting; thanks, Bill, for sharing these details. Those of us who braved the heat were rewarded with expansive views of the new construction in progress, followed by blissfully air-conditioned socializing and a delicious meal at Assante Ristorante Italiano along with the excellent presentation. Our best wishes to HDR and to Bill Laird for continued success on the Cementon Bridge project, and our warm(!) thanks to everyone who joined us for the event.
