Who We Are & What We Do
The first meeting of ASCE members interested in forming a local section was held on February 20, 1922 in Bethlehem, PA. Two additional meetings held in February and March of that year resulted in the drafting of a constitution and bylaws. In April, ASCE approved the formation of the Section with twenty-two founding members. Officers were elected in June and the first regular meeting of the Section was held in October 1922. Interestingly, the Lafayette College and Lehigh University student chapters were both formed in January of 1922. Four meetings were held per year until 1935 when it was expanded to six meetings. The number of meetings were further expanded over the years (seven in 1952, eight in 1960, and nine in 1973).
Increased Growth The Section has grown to 502 members (1999) and continues to have nine meetings per year. Project tours and continuing education seminars are also organized by the Section for the benefit of its membership. The Lafayette College and Lehigh University Student Chapters also remain active.
